ST. LOUIS — Last week Midwest BankCentre hosted their 4th annual nonprofit connector event. The goal is to diversify non-profit board's by connecting St. Louis area leaders looking to serve on Boards with nonprofits.

"This event was born a few years ago. I was getting so many calls about serving on nonprofit boards. What they were really looking for was an opportunity to build relationships," says Orvin Kimbrough, Midwest BankCentre Chairman and CEO. "Our whole objective is to play matchmaker. We want to get people on boards. We want to curate talent to fit the diverse non-profit sector that we have in the St. Louis region," he says.

Jemal Dents, a St. Louis executive at Microsoft joined the Board of RxOutreach, after being introduced to the organization’s leadership at the nonprofit connector event last year.

"I understood it was an opportunity to plug into the community and to give back. I decided to serve on a board called RX Outreach. Their mission spoke to me. I've always worked in healthcare, and I know people struggle to get the medication they need," Dents said.

Lori Drury is the Executive Director and CEO of the nonprofit Biblical Business Training. She found exactly what she was looking for at last year’s event.

"On my way to the car as I was leaving the event I walked past two women. We made a cordial hello and I asked how the event was for you. One of the women said 'Well I didn't find any faith organizations inside and I had hoped to,' and I kind of raised my hand and said 'I'm one of those faith-based organizations'. The conversation started...and now she's a board member," Drury said.

Beyond connecting board members and non-profits, it’s about bringing new and diverse perspectives into leadership roles. Midwest BankCentre's focus on board diversity aligns with the bank's mission to build stronger communities.

Where you bank really does matter.
