The Southwest Connector project will connect the intersection of Corinth and Millard Farmer Roads to the Coweta County Fairgrounds. Future plans for the road include extending it further to Highway 29.

At its Tuesday night meeting, the Coweta County Board of Commissioners approved a supplemental agreement with American Engineers Inc, a design consultant, for additional work on the Southwest Connector.

The Southwest Connector project will be a new road beginning at the intersection of Corinth and Millard Farmer Roads that will extend to the east and southeast to temporarily end at the county fairgrounds.

At the commissioners' Tuesday night meeting, Public Works Administrator Tod Handley said in the future, the new road will extend across the CSX railroad and tie into Highway 29.

A roundabout will be included at the intersection of Corinth and Millard Farmer Roads.

According to county documents, the county staff have reached agreements with the property owners for the right-of-way or easement areas that are required for the project.

The county contracted with AEI in April 2019 for design an engineering services for SPLOST funded transportation projects.

The supplemental agreement is necessary to add a right turn lane to the project for $5,600.

Property on the northwest corner of the Corinth Road and Millard Farmer Road intersection is planned to be developed by CAAP Group, which will require the right turn lane along Corinth Road and at the entrance to development near the future roundabout.

According to county documents, the developer agreed to pay the costs for design and construction of the right turn lane. The county will include the turn lane in its project plans and will construct it as a part of its own project.

At the same meeting, the commissioners approved a development agreement between the county and developer to establish each entity's responsibilities for the project, as well as a timeline for permitting and payment.

The turn lane is expected to cost the developer $131,790.
