Apple Is "Well Prepared" For AR Headset Launch At WWDC In June With Dual M2

Apple will take center stage on June 5 to host its highly anticipated WWDC 2023 event, where it will see fit to announce a boatload of software as well as hardware. While the event is dedicated to showcasing iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14, watchOS 10, and other updates, the company is reported to unveil a few hardware devices as well. One of the devices that Apple has in store for users is the new AR Headset which has rested in the rumor mill for years. An analyst is now speculating that Apple is "highly likely" to launch the AR Headset at the WWDC event and that it is "well prepared".

Throughout the years, we have heard about several delays regarding the launch of the AR Headset. Additionally, we have seen fewer leaks than rumors associated with the headset. Recently a ribbon cable that goes around the goggles was leaked that aimed to show the connectors of the headset. Today, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared his insights on the launch of the AR Headset in a Medium post.

Kuo shared mixed insights in the past, claiming that the company could launch the AR Headset later this year, potentially alongside the launch of the iPhone 15 series. He has negated his previous claims, suggesting that Apple is well prepared for the launch of its highly-anticipated AR Headset at the WWDC 2023 event. Kuo also shared details on the device's internals and design, which he believes will be part of the launch.

According to Kuo, The headset will feature 12 optical cameras for tracking and movement purposes, dual M2-based chips, and an external power source. Furthermore, users would be able to view content through the 4K microLED displays on the inside. While it sounds great, these additions will ramp up the production cost of the headset, and it would reflect in the final pricing of the device.

We have previously heard that Apple's AR Headset will be priced at a whopping $3,000. However, the company could be working on budget variants of the headset. Since the price is higher, Apple expects the demand for the headset to remain low. The company is expecting 7 to 10 million units of the headset to be sold in the first year.
