Pedestrian killed after being hit by vehicle on Downtown Connector

A pedestrian was killed Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of the Downtown Connector and I-20, police said.

Officers responded to I-75/85 southbound and I-20 westbound at about 6:35 a.m. A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle, according to a preliminary investigation. Her identity was not released Monday morning as next of kin had yet to be notified, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

By 6:50 a.m. Sunday, the exit ramp to I-20, west of Capitol Avenue in downtown Atlanta, was backed up due to slow merging, according to Georgia Department of Transportation footage.

Police did not say what type of vehicle was involved.
